While many sellers state that their items are reproductions, many are misrepresented as real items. A recent eBay sale of a $25 repro kit was sold to an unspecting buyer for $700. Buyer beware!
- How to tell a genuine Mattel Rear Wing from a reproduction copy:
- Production Wings have crisp clear part numbers, some repros have numbers, some do not.
- Early Production are super stiff, Regular production super soft. Repros are all in the middle/firm range.
- Production Wings are consistently semi-glossy. Repros are all Glossy.
- Repros are generally a bit rougher than the smooth production ones.
- Repros will sometimes have some extra flashing that is still attached.
Many of the original wings were lost over the years and here too a variety of reproductions have been created.
Many sellers state that their wings are reproductions, but many are being misrepresented as real items. Buyer beware!
